He was a Finnish linguist. He went to Turku University first Finnish language and related language professor. He published his doctoral thesis "Finland's south-western dialects in 1901. He then went to the University of Helsinki, the Finnish language and literature, an associate professor from 1903, three semesters with E.N. Setälä, authorities preferred the Finnish language and literature professor and Finnish Philology assistant (associate professor) since 1914. In addition, he was Finnish Business College teacher in 1908-1919. In 1921, he was appointed to the University of Turku, the first Finnish and related language professor. He wrote a dozen scientific books, as well as almost two hundred articles published. In particular, he studied Finnish dialects, and the loaned the oldest book in Finnish, terminology, he then went to the Karelian and Estonian languages. He made a number of large-scale expeditions and raised in southern Estonia and northern Latvia extensive collections, which remained unpublished. He brought at the age of 22 in 1895, almost 14.000 word to the list of "Tyrvään dialect dictionary." Dictionary published explanations and examples of completed in two phases in 2008 and 2009. A 1353-page book is one of the largest local dialect dictionaries in Finland.

He was a fifth cousin of great-grandfather Frank Kaskinen.
